2010. A year of 1sts.

In April, i conquered the 4,095m Mt Kinabahru after 18 hrs of trekking and 9 hrs on Via Ferrata. It was an out of the world experience when i realised that i am overlooking the fluffy bed of white clouds; not to mention hanging on the cliff of Mt Kinabahru like a lizard.

In the same trip, i tried out the most adrenaline rushing activity - white wate rafting. Capsized and drifting in the rapids was a bit scary for me though.

In May, i finalli gotten my Open Water Diving License. And in August, i went for my first leisure dive trip with ivy and sihui in Bali. If the anxiety of a "virign" dive was bad, the rough waters and bumpy boat ride made it worse. Luckily, the 3-4m huge manta ray that were swimming just less than a metre away rekindled that dive interest.

Fortunately because of work, i traveled to Italy and Switzerland in September. Seeing all the fashionistas in Milan really open up my horizon on what defines a Fashion City.

2010 was a yr of turbo travelling for me. After almost a decade, the family went off for a getaway in Phuket. It was definitely a nice experience to be able to kayak, ride elephants etc with the family. Revisited 上海 & 北京。A fantistic trip made memorable by awesome company.

My baby - Singapore River Festival was a blast. Due to circumstances, i had a chance to handle Retail which in my opinion is rather a sexy portfolio. I am lurving its work scope and opportunities and looking forward to deliver yet another great event - Asia Fashion Exchange.

Family and Friends continued to be the nucleus of my life, making it ever so vibrant and colourful. I am thankful for their presence.

i was searching thru my archived blogposts for the new year resolutions i set for moiself in 2010. Never did i reaslied did becos i was busy updating blog posts of my "happenings", absolutely no resolutions were set. However, no targets doesnt mean that none was achieved. 2010 has been aweseome at least it was the year of many firsts and turbo traveling. While i review, reflect and revise in the next post, let me wish everyone a Happy New Year!

Milan - Florence Trip

Milan is indeed a Fashion Capital.

Fashionistas roamed the streets.

Guys are hot and babes are gorgeous.

i felt like a dwarf.

Highlights of my trip

The Duomo was magnificent!

with all the intricate details, it's no wonder why

Duomo is an architectural wonder

Chasin upon Siena

Beautiful and definitely worth our long walk in the cold

and not forgetting the hot Italian waiter

The Ham and Eggplant PAnini in the mall

and the numerous scoops of gelato that went down moi stomach

Of course, how can we resist Shopping?

and lastly the great company that made this trip so memorable

but we realise that bimbotic moments did liven the conversation

Mushroom Bday!!!

Started the series of celebration

with a cosy dinner

yup. just the 4 of us

and a surprise on the actual day

and ended off with the big makan-ing @ popo house

One night i was grumbling @ her for not washing

a certain piece of the dirty laundry

which i am determined to wear on fri

and i put on a sulky face tt i was too tired to wash it tt night

and have to do it tmr instead

so dear mushroom said

"if i can wake up early tmr morning, i will help u wash"

early next morning

i saw the cleaned piece of clothing, hanging in the bath

Bali 'Getaway' 3rd till 6th August

i held on to my 'seat' for life as the speedboat crashed hard against the waves

one after another

it was impossible to sit still

a good 45mins 'roller coaster' boat ride

somehow, this did not seem to be the getaway i have signed up for

i was slight relieved when we reached Nusa Lembongan, the first dive site

It did not last long as the 'shaking' of the boat was worse when it stopped moving.

i felt more dizzy then ever

the onli relief was tt i survived the first dive

and i spotted a giant puffer fish!

Moving at full speed again to the 2nd dive site, manta point.

Waves were high and strong. It seemd impossible to dock anywhere.

Somehow, i was wrong. The boat stopped near a cliff and we were ordered to dive in!

The water was icy cold and visibility was bad =(

I did know know what to expect till i spotted them!

The magnificent sea creatures, the mantas were moving in a herd of 3!!!

They were realli huge, almost 4m in width!!!

I could not believe it was possible to be so close to them.

Skipping lunch did not help.

I puked after the 2nd dive, providing some nourishment for the fishes.

And nope, we didnt manage to catch any mola mola in the final dive of the day.

It was another 45 mins of roller coaster ride before we reached main land.

On the 2nd day, we had to endure a long 2.5 hrs of car journey

before we reached the destination for our 2 shore dives.

The reef was very colourful and vibrant.

For the first time, i actually enjoyed diving.

Of course, it helped that the instructor was very patient, guided me

and corrected my postures.

Most important thing abt shore dives, you need to have 'strong legs' to reach the shore.

The 2nd shore dive was an eye opener.

We were taken inside the wreck - darker than usual.

For the first time, i spotted

dozens of tap fish coming out from the seabed

schools of jackfish in formation

& the ever colourful nulibranch

A dive holiday is indeed very different.
As ivy said, diving is a very healthy sport.

We start the day early (as early as 630am)

and sleep early (becos we are too tired)

No much time to explore the beatiful Sanur, but managed to catch some interesting sights

food however was not fantastic

i ate so many oysters tt i thought i would get food poisoning

i admit i am a scaredy cat when it comes to rides

was too much for moi fatty heart to bear

for most of the times, i need to hold moi chest

in case, moi heart falls out

However, when it comes to horror movies

i am a total FAN

i remb last time i used to jump when the ghost suddenly appeared

or gave off a spine- chilling scream that was scarier den the movie itself

today however, was an exception

i was totally amazed by moi calmness when watching the horror show

either

b) i was asleep when the werewolf hunt

The story of perception & taste

Before our annual MT Christmas gathering on sun

we popped by Queenstown shopping centre

for some sporty finds

and i chanced upon this

awesome, comic and colourful asics running shoes

it was love at first sight

meiyan agrees that it was chio too

i tried it on and it looked pretty

i felt like i can run a thousand miles

and win a 100m sprint with the shoe

the onli thing stopping me was the price tag

it cost freaking $175 even after 20% discount

so i reluctantly put it back the shelf

during the party

i was ravelling to ngiam and chester abt the shoe

and they said they had to see this pair

and when they went back to see the shoe their responses were unanimous

THE SHOES ARE UGLY

i replied

"if i buy will u still be friends with me?"

"you will risk losing 2 normal friends over 1 abnormal friend"

so i guess tt is a no?

traffic was rather smooth although heavy

this yr Zoukout was extended to WaveHouse

which housed the Mambo Tent

it was the 1st time i saw so many pro surfers

And foodies gathered

for some energy boost for the long night!

looks appealing

it was exactly as the pictures

the curry was fragrant yet not too strong

and mixed with the sticky jap rice

4th yr participation

and the 2nd full marathon for me

the night before

we were busy preparing ourselves mentally

as well as

doing trivial but impt stuff

putting bib on our 战衣

just before we doze off to lala land

i told ivy

"Why not we just go eat Mac Breakfast tmr?"

The next morning in the wee hours

we were already up

carbo loading and stretching

i asked ivy again

"Why are we signing up to torture ourselves?"

ivy replied

"Next yr, you will stand at the same position, asking me the same qn!"

We were slightly late

and even before we crossed the start line

the black gang aka the top runners are already U- turning back

the nightmare happens shortly after the jog commences

0-2km : Feeling Good

2- 4km : Shin starts to hurt and harden

4-6km : trying to psycho moiself tt moi shin didnt hurt

miraclely it works

6-14km : feeling alright

14-18km : ivy back starts giving her pbm =(

24 km : was where i lost ivy and on moi own

24km - 32km : starting to feel the strain but still manage to jog

32km- 36km : walk jog walk jog

36km- 38km : barely able to stretch moi legs and jog

38km - 41km : even walking is a chore!

42km : try to make it to the finish line

at the last 200m
giving it a last jog
and the pain was intense!!!
well it was written all over moi fac

FINALLY
after 6.03hr

I'm proud to say i completed the race
once again
and better moi timing by 0.5 hr!!!

for the encouraging smses
and definitely big thanks to moi jie jie
who was the motivating factor i took up jogging

The Early Girly Christmas Experience

Since we cant get ani snow in Singapore

we decided to immerse ourselves in a cold christmas

i used to be able to skate pretty well

ESA Retreat

The 2 days retreat started off with serious stuff

strategies of the various divisions for the coming yr

the presentations and discussions were so intense

tt at 6plus in the evening

we were all 'strat-out' and seriously need a break

we were invited to the new attraction

~WAVEHOUSE~

with a price of $29

you get an 1 hr of surfing experience

it was by no means easy to stand on the board w/o assistance

but definitely worth a revisit!

we had lotsa fun!

Day 2 of retreat

is realli nice to escape from the concrete walls and enjoy the sun

and of course yummy lunch @ coastes

i lurve the casual setting

the random jokes and the awesome food

the lychee margarita is superb!

1 - the leap of faith

it simply means jumping off from a 3 storey height

i dunno why i was so gung-ho and volunteered to be the 1st

the view from the 3 storey str down was scary

well, the 1st leap is always hardest

but after tt it was great!

2 - Obstacle Course

similar to OBS obstacle course

with 10 stations elevated 2 storeys abv the gnd
it was physically demanding

and at the end, i felt moi arms were giving way

3 - Megazip

THE MOST FUN

swinging down from the top of sentosa

down the beach

cross the sea

and towards another island

how can we miss the staple - LUGE and sky lift
